Description

The practicum student will receive joint supervision from the HaWRC’s Assistant Director and a licensed clinician at the Counseling Center.

The Health & Wellness Resource Center (HaWRC) is a one-stop hub connecting students with on-campus and community resources to help students thrive. In partnership with community programs such as United Way, we provide resource connections, financial coaching, and public benefits enrollment. Our services also include peer health education, and referrals to off-campus wellness resources.

The Counseling Center is the designated department at University of Washington Bothell to provide mental health services to UW Bothell students and support students at Cascadia College. The role of the Counseling Center is to provide mental health related services to facilitate students’ adjustment to college and their personal and psychological growth in becoming well-functioning and socially responsible adults. The Counseling Center promotes students learning about their emotional and psychological development and increased academic success by positively impacting academic and personal decision-making. Our staff work to help students resolve problems that interfere with personal, social, and academic functioning while also emphasizing prevention, development, adjustment, and wellness. We offer group workshops, crisis hours, individual counseling, case management and psychiatric services.

The HaWRC and Counseling Center are part of the UW Bothell Division of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs that is committed to providing students with services and opportunities which foster student engagement, holistic well-being, personal and professional development, leadership, and experiential learning.

Micro

Practicum students will work closely with the Basic Needs Resource Navigator at the HaWRC to provide one-on-one support for students accessing the food pantry, including intake assistance, resource referrals (i.e. food banks, SNAP benefits), and emotional support.

Practicum students will shadow the Counseling Center Case Manager (with student consent) to learn mental health referral pathways and crisis response protocols. Could also help with group activities and crisis appointments dependent on student interest.

Mezzo

Coordinate food drives and donation campaigns to support campus basic needs initiatives. Co-facilitate student workshops on budgeting, stress management during finals, and related wellness topics. Represent the centers at campus outreach events (i.e., resource fairs, orientation tabling) to promote services and connect students to resources. Practicum students will also have opportunities to design custom projects aligned with their career interests as well as the agency’s needs and values.

Macro

Collect and analyze pantry usage data to identify trends in student basic needs. Use findings to advocate for campus policies addressing basic needs insecurity, mental health, and holistic student support. Expand opportunities for students needs assessments to directly inform campus policy decisions.

Required Experience

Social service work through volunteering, employment, or lived experience may be helpful.
Preferred: Experience with case management, crisis intervention, or health education is a plus.

How to Apply

Please send your resume and a cover letter describing how this role fits into your educational goals to hawrc@uw.edu and uwbcc@uw.edu. After reviewing your materials, we will schedule an interview with prospective applicants.
