Description

Seattle Children's South Clinic is a Regional Clinic providing outpatient specialized care, radiology, infusion, and pharmacy for patients and families in the South Sound area; the clinic, and this placement, are in Federal Way, WA.

The South Clinic serves over 20 specialty areas including Neurodevelopmental, Cardiology, Endocrine, Nephrology, Adolescent Medicine, etc.  This student placement is under the direct supervision of clinical social worker who is bilingual and provides medical social work and grief counseling with individuals, families, and groups.

Micro

During this placement opportunities may include meeting with patients and families to assess and address barriers to care, using a strengths-based framework to work with families to optimize health outcomes. Social workers in this clinic conduct brief and comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, support family access to community connections and concrete resources, respond to positive patient screens for suicide risk, and provide supportive counseling. Patient contact will be primarily in person and by phone with the possibility of telemedicine as well.

Mezzo

Coordinating psycho-social response with all members of the building (including physical therapists, MA’s, registration). Coordinating care between South Clinics and main campus of SCH. Serving as liaison between SCH and various community entities, including DCFS, Schools, legal systems. Referring families to community resources that address social determinants of health, such as food banks, homeless shelters, financial assistance, etc. Student may have opportunities to design and implement appropriate project for South Clinic.

Required Experience

MSW Specialized Student. Healthcare/Behavioral health experience preferred, but not required. Proximity to clinic preferred.

Required/Preferred Languages

Spanish fluency preferred but not required
