Alternative Learning Experience School
Interagency Academy is network of small high schools spread out across Seattle designed to support students who need different supports than comprehensive schools offer. We partner with community-based organizations and agencies to provide unique learning environments with targeted interventions.
We are committed to working with every student, regardless of his or her past, and we believe that every student can grow and succeed if given the right support and encouragement.
Micro
- 1:1 Case management for both students and families
- Resource allocation from local nonprofits
- Crisis intervention
- Regular counseling and/or check ins
Mezzo
- Skill building groups (grief, life skills, problem solving, etc.)
- Participation in MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) meetings
- Collaboration on intervention meetings with staff, families and other agencies
- Learn how unions and school districts operate alongside one another
Macro
- Learn how school systems are impacted by and work with policies (ie Becca Bill, McKinney-Vento, SPED)
- Opportunity to attend school-board meetings
- Collaborate with King County on providing opportunities to students in detention
- Participation on school-wide committees to develop SEL and advisory lessons
Additional Perks or Funding
The Workforce for Student Well-being (WSW) Initiative is a collaborative effort between the University of Washington School Mental Health, Assessment, Research, and Training (UW SMART) Center and School of Social Work, the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the Washington Association of School Social Workers. The program offers financial support, academic mentoring, and professional development opportunities for second year MSW students in Washington state who are committed to working as social workers in high-need public schools or tribal schools for at least two years following graduation.

Required Experience
- Self-starting individual
- Ability to manage themselves without 1:1 supervision
- Experience with youth of color and students furthers from educational justice
- Familiarity with the education system and graduation requirements
- Comfortability with students involved in the juvenile justice system
- Experience developing their own caseload
- Experience with restorative practices
