Description

The Edmonds School District is located in south Snohomish County, our 35 schools cover approximately 36 square miles within the communities of Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Woodway and portions of unincorporated Snohomish County.

 

PRACTICUM SUMMARY:

The practicum placement with the Counselor at Lynndale Elementary School is a micro and mezzo focused internship.  Projects will be varied depending on the practicum student’s interest and the school’s needs.  The practicum student initially will shadow and gain systemic and clinical experience from the practicum supervisor.  The practicum student will support the counselor in the implementation of a comprehensive counseling program at Lynndale.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assesses the needs, strengths, and areas of growth of students through a variety of means including one- on-one assessments, conversations, interviews, tests, small group activities, and observations throughout the school day. 
  2. Provide individual and small group counseling for students to support their academic, social, and emotional needs with an equity perspective. 
  3. Collects data and utilizes information systems to support students. Provides data driven services and interventions. 
  4. Participates in equity team meetings.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Micro

As the School Social Work Intern, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of clinical interventions to a small case load of students. You will be supervised by an experienced School Social Worker who you will shadow and then start to conduct your own interventions as you see fit.

Mezzo

As the School social work intern, you will be responsible to collect data and utilize this information to identify tier 2 targeted interventions (groups) to identified students. The groups will depend on the students' need but can range from SEL, trauma informed CBT, grief group work, DBT, etc.

Required Experience

The practicum student will have an interest in School Social Work and will be completing their ESA upon completion of their Masters curriculum.
The practicum student will be a student in their advanced year of their Master’s in Social Work.
The practicum student will have experience working with diverse populations.
The practicum student must be able to work with minimal supervision at times and be a self-starter.
