Description
Project Girl Mentoring Program is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization located in Lynnwood, Washington. Its mission is to foster the advancement of young women to make positive life choices and maximize their personal potential. Through collaborative programming with community centers, schools, and other youth-based organizations, we provide educational, social, and mentoring services to enhance academic performance, community connections, and career options for young women.
As a Program Counselor, you provide counseling, assistance, and guidance to help teens develop daily living skills that improve their mental, physical, or emotional health. You work with teens and families through programs that support teens and families with personalized solutions for mental health challenges.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Counselor works alongside the program team and will carry out the responsibilities of the position as defined below:
Micro
Learn how to provide social and emotional learning techniques that enrich mentoring sessions and counseling programs that empower teens/parents and promote health and mental well-being. Interns will learn to design a curriculum and communicate effectively with adolescents and parents in a mentoring/counseling setting.
Additionally, interns are encouraged to discuss and implement novel mentoring/counseling techniques acquired through their education at the University of Washington.
Mezzo
Collaborating with the Edmonds School District, Mukilteo School District, Everett School District, Shoreline School District, YWCA, Everett Housing Authority, local businesses, neighborhoods, hospitals, organizations, and other community organizations.
Macro
Participate in a collaborative team that provides mentorship and counseling services to adolescent females from diverse ethnic backgrounds within the educational setting, including regular school hours, after-school activities, and summer programs.
Required Experience
To be a successful Program Counselor, a student must have:
*A desire to work with young women of color ages 10-18.
*Willingness to communicate openly with mentees in a professional manner.
*Dependable and consistent in meeting times commitment.
*Effective communication skills.
*Ability to build positive relationships with and promote self-confidence in young women.
*Highly organized and able to manage multiple ongoing projects
*Creativity and flexibility, ability to work independently and as part of a team
*Experience working in racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse urban communities
*Experience with Google Doc
