Micro
Student Roles and Responsibilities Include:
Psychosocial and behavioral health assessments, providing psycho-education to patients, families/support systems, participating in care conferences, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary teams, providing 1:1 emotional support for patients and referring patients to community resources.
Mezzo
The social work student will work approximately 2-3 days per week in the Emergency Department. Primary responsibilities include working with the interdisciplinary team to develop and manage a treatment plan for psychosocial support for patients and coordinating discharge plans and providing crisis intervention services. Other responsibilities include meeting with patients to provide supportive counseling, completing comprehensive mental health evaluations, suicide risk assessments and referrals to community resources. It will be important for potential students to have psychosocial assessment skills, comfort in working with severe mental illness (SMI) strong oral and written communication skills and an open and non-biased approach to working with patients from diverse backgrounds.
The student will also have the option to spend some shifts in the NICU/FMC as well as acute Medical/Surgical units to learn and work with a wide range of specialties and populations.

Required Experience
Experience with mental health evaluations, substance use assessments, crisis intervention, and community resources preferred but not required.
