Description

In this outpatient clinic placement, students will be able to provide clinical social work services to children with acute and chronic illness and support to their families as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team. Students will have an opportunity to counsel patients and families regarding new medical diagnosis and understanding treatment options, evaluate psychosocial factors that influence families access to healthcare needs, advocate for patient and family's access to services, partner with community agencies for resources, provide crisis interventions when clinically indicated and promote cultural appropriate family-centered care. The majority of the work is micro level focus with individual patients and families. There may be opportunities for Mezzo and Macro work depending on student interest and desire to purse clinic-based projects. This clinic runs daily Mon-Fri, practicum days of the week are flexible, but hours will need to be during clinic time 7-5, with some flexibility for early or late depending on days and projects. This placement is all on site but does include phone and email outreach.
