Our Mission

DESC helps people with the complex needs of homelessness, substance use disorders, and serious mental illness achieve their highest potential for health and well-being through comprehensive services, treatment, and housing.

Micro

Mobile Response Team (MRT):
MRT is a crisis outreach team that responds to mental health, and substance use crises situations within housing sites. MRT operates with multiple housing agencies, not just DESC. MRT utilizes L.A.A.C (Counseling and social work professionals), peers, nurses, case managers, and Substance Use Disorder Professionals to provide as many lenses as is needed to help provide support to people who are in crisis and have experience with chronic homelessness, substance use, and mental health symptoms.
Who can intern:
We are looking to 1st year generalist, or 2nd year with a clinical specialization.
What your role would be:
The MRT intern would be responding to calls from housing programs to provide deescelation, motivational interviewing, and suicidal/homicidal ideation, and for grave disability.
Daily Tasks:
Daily shift briefings, team meetings, responding to crisis referrals in housing sites, provide harm reduction, and survival supplies as needed.

Mezzo

There is also opportunity to work with staff from the different housing site that we outreach to address some issue that is present in the housing program.

Macro

DESC encourages its' workers to head to Olympia to attend the Lobby Days. There is also an opportunity to help with the development for the budget for the program, and to review program funding sources.

Required Experience

1st year generalist or a 2nd year who wants to to persue a clinical specialization.
