Description
The Center for Independence (CFI) is a non-residential, community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operated by people with disabilities, serving people with disabilities ages 14 and up.
We serve as a resource for individuals with disabilities to fully access and participate in the community through outreach, advocacy, and independent living skills development. We work together with participants to achieve independent living goals such as self-advocacy, self-sufficiency, and self-determination.
Micro
Work one on one with participants to develop goals and provide independent living skills training and advocacy. Conduct phone intakes and in-person intakes/assessments.
Mezzo
Co-facilitate monthly peer groups and co-teach job training/self-advocacy lessons in the schools.
Macro
Learn about organization policies and procedures. Attend Lobby day and/or disability legislative reception. Attend quarterly State Independent Living Council meetings. Learn about legislation and policies that impact the disability community.
Required Experience
Experience working with people with a wide range of disabilities is preferred. Previous social work-related experience is preferred.
