Description

Akin (formerly Children’s Home Society of Washington) is the largest and oldest family services organization in Washington state. Children's Home Society recently merged with Childhaven and both organizations are doing work under the name Akin. Akin provides holistic services and support for children/families in communities around the state to help them reach their full potential. We reach our families before they are in crisis, to identify their unique needs and set them up with resources and prevention services to manage life’s challenges at a time when additional support is needed most.

North Seattle Family Resource Center is located in the diverse Lake City community of  Northeast Seattle.  Family Center Goals are:

+ To increase family strength and self-sufficiency
+ To increase family social support and decrease isolation
+ To promote positive parent-child relationships
+ To promote positive school-home relationships
+ To support positive child development

Micro

One-on-one or small group work with parents providing appropriate advocacy services, information and referral, emergency assistance, systems navigation and basic needs delivery.

Mezzo

Facilitation or co-facilitation of workshops and small groups to include Play and Learn groups, life skills, youth leadership development, parenting education; collaborative programming with other service providers.

Macro

Advocacy work with provider networks and coalitions; assistance with development of a new family resource center site including programs, services and community needs. Interaction with Akin's Build Lake City Together, a neighborhood improvement initiative, and elected officials.

Required Experience

Experience working with families, children and youth; commitment to DEI; experience working in diverse communities.
