Description

Valley Medical Center (VMC) is the largest nonprofit healthcare provider between Seattle and Tacoma, serving over 600,000 residents. In addition to the hospital, the Medical Center operates a network of more than four dozen primary care, urgent care and specialty clinics throughout Southeast King County.

Located in Renton, Washington, Valley offers medical, surgical and 24-hour emergency care as a Level III Trauma Center. Valley is a regional resource with skilled clinicians across many specialty areas such as: joint replacement and orthopedics, neuroscience, stroke, spine, childbirth and neonatal care, specialized heart and vascular care, cancer treatment and much more.

Micro

Interns will gain experience with direct patient crisis interventions and referral to services. Provide transition/discharge planning and case management duties with individuals and families to assist with social, behavioral, and/or financial challenges that are negatively impacting their health and quality of life.

Interns will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary treatment team, in a fast-paced environment making referrals to and collaborating with outside agencies for post-acute services.

Mezzo

Interaction with other health entities (health insurance companies, state programs) to navigate organizational functioning and service delivery for individuals to improve access to resources.

Macro

Limited, but there's opportunities to share knowledge and to educate about trauma informed care, evidence-based practices, patient/client centered philosophy at a large organization whose priority service is medical focused.

Required Experience

Some experience working in a fast-paced and demanding environment,
Some knowledge about Medicaid and Medicare insurance coverage.
Seeking interns with strong critical thinking skills, takes initiative, and can work independently.

Required/Preferred Languages

English required.
Bilingual/multilingual speakers encouraged to apply.
