Description
Fairfax Behavioral Health (Outpatient) provides various levels of intensive group therapy for both adults and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD and other mood disorders.
Practicum students have the opportunity to participate in and eventually facilitate weekly multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, facilitate daily therapy groups, conduct psychosocial assessments, write individualized treatment plans and facilitate individual and family meetings after receiving ongoing training from several approved practicum supervisors/instructors. Students will learn a variety of treatment modalities, including CBT, DBT, MI, ACT, and various others. In addition to individual weekly supervision, students will have biweekly group supervision with other interns and will attend biweekly staffing with other clinicians. Students will receive a wide variety of training on various topics within the social work system.
Our multidisciplinary treatment team consists of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, master's level therapists and social workers, nurses, program coordinators and recreation therapists to best support the needs of our clients.
The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) takes place five days a week (M- F) for about five hours a day. The average length of stay is anywhere between three to six weeks. Our clinicians facilitate daily Psych Ed, Skills, Art/Expressive and Process groups along with individual check-ins and family meetings on a case-by-case basis. Many clients are on a leave of absence from work in order to participate in daily intensive programming.
Our intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a step beyond weekly individual therapy. Our IOP is designed for individuals who would benefit from a structured, therapeutic setting in which to work towards managing their mental health, behavioral health and substance use concerns. The IOP curriculum is an eight-week DBT-based program offered in the AM, PM or evening to provide flexibility, as many of our clients maintain their work and/or school life and other responsibilities while completing this program. We also currently have IOP for substance use disorders.
At this time, most of our programs currently take place via Telehealth, while our adolescent program(s) are a hybrid of virtual and in-person programming and our substance use programs are fully in person.
