Description
Atlantic Street Center is an agency that primarily serves low income youth, adolescents, and families of color in Seattle’s central and south end neighborhoods and south King County (but can serve all of King County). A majority of our participants come from Black/African-American, immigrant, and other communities of color, with most classified as low- and very low-income. Our counseling program is committed to providing culturally responsive and anti-oppressive, quality community-based services. We seek to reduce barriers that prevent youth and their families from having access to counseling services. 70% of the participants enrolled in our counseling services are under the age of 18 years old. As an agency, Atlantic Street Center also offers programming for youth and families in our Youth Development Program, Family Resource Center, Teens and Young Adults as Parents Program, Early Learning Program, and Gender Based Violence Program.
Micro
Interns will have the opportunity to provide individual therapy as well as family and group therapy to participants. There will also be opportunity to offer collateral support through contact with caregivers, school administration, counselors and teachers, and other community members. Interns will also be working in a collaborative work space and will gain some experience with case management and collaboration with our staff ARNP and will participate in case consultations.
Mezzo
Interns will have the opportunity to provide advocacy for participants on the school level within individual schools and may participate in IEP meetings and school disciplinary meetings. The internship experience often includes opportunity to collaborate with community partners and will provide peer support through a cohort model.
Macro
Interns may explore how larger systems impact communities served through consultation, supervision, and collateral contacts. As a site, we have fewer Macro opportunities.
