Riverton Park United Methodist Church was formed by the uniting of 5 South Seattle churches in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The people of the Riverton Park UMC community seek to offer hospitality, hope, and assistance through housing, nutrition, education, and community fellowship. Our mission in Migrant Arrival Support is centered around providing shelter, food, and community support to those who require it. As more asylum-seekers and refugees have come to our region, we have expanded our services to better serve our new neighbors.
We offer a variety of Migrant Support Services to assist migrants in need, including legal aid for immigration issues, translation services, and access to basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter. Through this program, our church aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment for migrants and to help them integrate into the local community.
The goal of the case management program within Migrant Support Services is to empower asylum seekers who reside at the church to be self-advocates as they navigate the various systems that support and impact their lives. We strive to link them to skills, knowledge, relevant services, and psychosocial support to achieve self-sufficiency in integrating into life in the community.
Micro
Provide a variety of trauma-informed case management related services to residents and former residents who are all asylum seekers from parts of Africa and Latin America.
Provide crisis intervention, supportive counseling, and psychosocial referrals.
Provide shelter intakes for new residents and assist residents into Coordinated Entry to Housing.
Assist residents in applying for and locating affordable housing.
Assist residents in obtaining or employment.
Liaison with the Legal Team at RPUMC on Mondays.
Utilize AirTable as a tool for coordination of services.
Provide referrals to other organization or services in the the community
Assist clients with paperwork they receive—bills, applications, other letters that need responses
Coordinate with lead case manager and volunteer case managers and attend team meetings.
Mezzo
Liaison with community resources to increase accessibility for RPUMC residents, including scheduling outside resources to provide on-site services and connecting residents.
Collaborate with community partners or clinics when onsite to ensure clients receive comprehensive services.
Explore new resources, as identified by clients or case management team related to education, health care, employment, legal status and housing.
Macro
Potential to advocate for policy issues related to Asylum seekers and refugees on the city, county, state and federal levels.
Potential to coordinate specific projects between UW School of Social Work and RPUMC.
Required Experience
Work experience in international setting, whether abroad or in the U.S. Knowledge of other language strongly recommended and use of language translation software and collaboration with translators.
Ability to work in often chaotic setting with many people and languages spoken.
Desire to provide trauma-informed case managment to families and individuals in crisis.
Required/Preferred Languages
Spanish, Lingala, Portuguese, French.
