Description

As a youth-led organization, the Service Board (tSB) builds community around the power of youth. For the last 27 years, tSB has developed and implemented culturally-relevant programming for high school-aged youth from historically marginalized communities (BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, low-income, immigrants, refugees, houseless youth, and or those in foster care). At tSB, we amplify youth voices and give them tools to foster a more equitable future.  Our year-round programming provides equitable access to traditionally inaccessible outdoor activities. Through sports like snowboarding, we are committed to increasing diversity in the outdoors and building confidence in vulnerable youth. In combination with community service projects, adult mentoring, social and environmental justice education, and social and emotional learning workshops, tSB creates courageous communities of young change-makers, advocates, athletes, and future environmentalists.

Micro

Practicum students will have the opportunity to work directly with BIPoC youth program participants and adult mentors. Practicum students provide support in several areas based on program needs and the student's areas of interest, including (but not limited to):

- mental & social wellbeing (counseling, check ins, conflict management)
- relationship management (youth and adult communications, community guidelines, advocacy, liason between staff and community)
- youth development (mentorship, personal identity development, advocacy, and life skills, etc.)
- service ethics, policy and compliance (youth development training, mandated reporting requirements, etc.)

Mezzo

Practicum students will support the core program sessions and activities by assisting with planning, coordinating, developing curriculum. This includes participating in team and planning meetings, assisting in the implementation of strategies, upholding and evaluating organizational policies to support community needs, and facilitating our curriculum in partnership with youth leaders and staff. Students will also have the opportunity to engage with tSB's organizational and community stakeholders, as well as the many schools, CBOs and communities the organization partners with.

Macro

Practicum students will have the opportunity to contribute to tSB's organizational development, grant/funding cycles, program development, strategic initiatives and program evaluation processes.
