Description
Youth Eastside Services is a community behavioral health organization (non-profit) serving youth, children, and families (birth to 22). YES provides mental health and substance use services in-person (Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond) and via telehealth, additionally providing prevention and outreach in school-based and community-based work. Provide individual, group, and family services regardless of ability to pay.
The young people and families we serve are coping with today’s most difficult life challenges, generational traumas, systemic oppression, and inequities. We believe that every person deserves equitable opportunities to achieve their goals, and that the strongest communities support those who face the greatest barriers to well-being.
YES helps youth reach their full potential, strengthens families, and advocates for a safe, caring, and equitable community through behavioral health support, expert intervention, outreach, and education.
We are building toward an Eastside community where every young person feels safe, respected, supported, and has a sense of belonging that empowers them to grow into the person they aspire to be.
Micro
Interns will gain experience with community behavioral health providing mental health services for diverse populations of youth ages 6 to 22 and their families at school and agency sites on the Eastside (Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond). Interns will work with YES in alignment with our mission and vision of reducing barriers and increasing access to services for our community. Interns will conceptualize and develop treatment plans, coordinate appropriate case management, collaborate with psychiatric services, and provide ongoing clinical services regarding Whole Person Care, Social Determinants of Health, and utilizing best practices to support growth and healing. Interns will participate in weekly one-on-one supervision, intern group consult meetings twice per month, and attend ongoing training opportunities offered. Interns collaborate and network with full-time staff in many departments and learn about community connections and referrals such as homelessness prevention, mentorship, school-based behavioral health, and community based programs such as Wraparound with Intensive Services (WISe). Maintain 50% productivity with caseload of clients, families, and group services available. Will gain exposure, supervision, and training in Evidence Based Practices (EBPs) such as CBT, DBT, and MI as well as practice with expressive art modalities and integration of other counseling theories aiding students in providing culturally aware, intentional, and relational services. Students will get in-person and telehealth experience in order to navigate and problem-solve access barriers and meeting clients where they are at.
Mezzo
Interns can help co-facilitate groups with staff leaders (substance use groups if desired, DBT, depression/anxiety groups, or sometimes school groups available). Working with family systems (we do not do couples work specifically here right now).
Macro
Students will learn Trauma Informed Approach in working not only with clients and families but also how this lens applies to our entire agency at every level for peer and self-awareness, fostering an intentional community and sense of safety and belonging. Students are invited to team meetings and all staff community meetings and can choose to engage in building further community and safety by joining Affinity Groups (currently: BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and Anti-Racism Work groups).
