Seattle Play Therapy – Macro Social Work Field Placement
Hosted by Seattle Play Therapy (PLLC)
Project: Development of Seattle Play Therapy Institute (501(c)(3) nonprofit)
Location: Seattle, WA | Hybrid (in-person and remote)
Placement Type: Macro – Nonprofit Development & Policy Design
About the Opportunity:
Seattle Play Therapy (SPT), a private child therapy practice, is offering a macro-focused field placement for an MSW student interested in helping to establish a values-informed, nonprofit branch of our work. While our nonprofit entity—Seattle Play Therapy Institute (SPTI)—already holds 501(c)(3) status, it is currently dormant. This internship will focus on reviving and structuring SPTI to offer scholarship-based therapy and future community programming that advances access, equity, and sustainability in children’s mental health care.
The internship is hosted by Seattle Play Therapy (PLLC), but all project work will focus on building the operational and ethical foundation of SPTI as a separate, nonprofit entity.
This is an exploratory and collaborative role. Together, we may choose to focus on areas like:
- Co-developing a mission and vision for the nonprofit that aligns with our values
- Outlining a sustainable scholarship program to increase access to therapy
- Mapping strategies to differentiate the nonprofit from the existing PLLC
- Drafting foundational policies, bylaws, or board development plans
- Exploring long-term funding or partnership opportunities
- Learning together how to build ethically resilient structures that protect access and integrity in uncertain systems
Required Experience
Ideal Candidate:
- Passionate about social work values and community-driven mental health solutions for children's mental health, specifically play therapy
- Interested in macro-level practice, policy design, and nonprofit development
- Organized, reflective, and comfortable in initiating and self-starting projects.
- Committed to building frameworks that center equity, transparency, and accessibility
- Curious about how mission-driven organizations can operate sustainably and with integrity in complex environments
