Manos Unidas International, is a U.S. based federally recognized non-profit with 501c3 status and a Washington state charity with the mission to build disability inclusive communities across the Americas through innovative education, technology and advocacy tools. Our vision is to empower global communities to achieve equitable inclusion of children and youth with disabilities.

MUI's featured program, “Ayllu Hogar”, translated as “community” in the Quechua language, is a strategic program designed to create broad systematic change to the learning outcomes and community participation of children with disabilities across marginalized Latino communities in the United States, and across the Americas, through a proprietary cloud-based video curriculum and culturally tailored interventions. 

Ayllu Hogar is a service navigation program for Latino families living in King County who have a child ages birth to five years old with disability or suspected developmental delay. The program offers education and health services navigation and connection to community based resources. The program also offers social connection, opportunities for the families to come together in community.

The family navigator is a bi-lingual Spanish/English student with an interest in health and education equity for the Latino disability community. The navigator conducts home- based visits with families to identify program eligibility, intake and needs assessments, and a development of family centered plan. The family navigator will assist families in navigating and accessing services in the following areas:
1) education system: help families enroll and navigate birth to 3 programs or special education services with the public schools.
2) health system: help families establish primary care doctors, navigate health insurance and diagnostic processes
3) community resource connection: case management of community resources based on family's needs
4) Support family participation in social events sponsored by Manos unidas like mom's cafes and family gatherings

The family navigator will manage the family's case based on a family centered plan and SMART goals. The navigator may offer mentoring and coaching for the family to reach their goals. Community resource connection will be outsourcing referrals such as food banks, mental health referrals, domestic violence, immigration support, housing etc.

Additional opportunities to participate in community outreach activities within the community.

Family Navigators will be working as a community health worker and involved with many community organizing events to advocate for immigration rights, health and education equity. Family navigators may be part of larger county, state and national organizing movements on behalf of the organization's beneficiaries.

Family navigators can gain experience at the Marco level by working alongside the organization's founder and executive director for examining larger systems of inequalities, policy, and organizational administration. This position could incorporate funding searches, grant writing, legislative research and organizational communications with community partners.

Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Minimum 2 years experience working as a community health worker, family support professional, home based visitor, family navigator or related position.
Lived or work experience interacting with and supporting people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and their families.
Bilingual fluency in both English and Spanish (spoken and written).
Must be comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment and willing to take on new tasks as assigned.
Ability to learn about IDD and community resources through experience, on-the-job training, and professional development, and successfully relay that information to families.
Ongoing commitment to learning, as policies, services, and procedures change over time.
Ability to learn and implement State of Washington Mandatory Reporting requirements.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds.
Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with a team.
Ability to be self-directed, work independently, and function as a team member.
Ability to set professional boundaries.

Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and car insurance.
Ability to pass a background check.
Basic computer skills (internet navigation, documentation).
Availability for a 30-hour work week (some evenings & weekends required)
U.S. work authorization

Spanish language required.
