Description

Since our beginnings in 1910, Swedish has been the region's standard-bearer for the highest-quality health care at the best value.

Swedish is the largest nonprofit health care provider in the greater Seattle area with five hospital campuses: First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, Edmonds and Issaquah. We also have ambulatory care centers in Redmond and Mill Creek, and a network of more than 100 primary care and specialty clinics throughout the greater Puget Sound area.

Swedish’s innovative care has made it a regional referral center for leading-edge procedures such as robotic-assisted surgery and personalized treatment in cardiovascular care, cancer care, neuroscience, orthopedics, high-risk obstetrics, pediatric specialties, organ transplantation and clinical research.

Swedish is affiliated with Providence St. Joseph Health, a Catholic, not-for-profit organization founded by the Sisters of Providence in 1856. With more than 76,000 employees, Providence operates 34 hospitals and 475 physician clinics across five states. Based in Renton, Washington, Providence also provides strategic and management services to integrated health-care systems in Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, and Washington.

Micro

This year, Swedish Medical Center is offering one placement at its Ballard Campus covering the Addiction Recovery Service Unit. This internship will provide the opportunity to work in an intensive inpatient setting with pregnant and parenting people of diverse backgrounds alongside an interdisciplinary team of professionals who specialize in substance use treatment. The MSW intern will provide bio-psychosocial assessments for patients on the unit, facilitate group and individual counseling sessions utilizing therapeutic interventions, and initiate referrals to address legal, financial, and housing concerns. Other responsibilities include communicating and advocating for clients with outside agencies (such as the Department of Children, Youth, and Families), intensive case management, and aftercare planning that align with parenting and recovery goals.
