Description
The Tacoma Project is a unique, hybrid program that blends shelter services for unhoused clients with mental health and substance use treatment. We offer individualized treatment planning to address treatment needs and housing planning, as well as a range of supportive and therapeutic services. The Project is a dynamic, high-energy, recovery-focused environment that focuses on interdisciplinary care through on-site primary care and medication management, substance use treatment, mental health treatment, peer counseling, and community-based support engagement.
Micro
Work with individuals on mental health assessment, treatment planning, and provision of evidence-based therapy services.
Mezzo
Development, implementation, and evaluation of group therapy services with focus on group dynamics and provision of evidence-based group therapy; topic areas can be explored as to the student's experience and interests.
Macro
Although not the focus of this placement, there is some opportunity to focus on community based advocacy, outreach, and policy advocacy.

Required Experience
The ideal candidates for these roles should have either education and/or experience in the areas of mental health diagnoses, substance use disorder treatment principles, and in working with people in temporary shelter settings. It is preferred that the student have either passed their Assessment of Mental Disorders (or equivalent title), or have relevant previous experience in the areas of diagnosis and evidence-based supportive brief therapies, prior to start of this practicum.
