Micro

COAT
Program: DESC's Community Outreach and Advocacy Team (COAT) is a multidisciplinary outreach-based treatment program serving folks who are cycling in and out of the criminal-legal system. COAT uses a modified Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model which involves intensive team-based support to the clients we serve. COAT consists of its project manager, psychiatric ARNP, RN, Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Therapist, Substance Use Disorder Professional, Peer Housing Navigator, and three Mental Health Case Managers. We have daily briefings, and all clients are shared across the team depending on their specific needs.

COAT seeks to provide evidence based and client led services that support its participants in reaching recovery as they define it.

Who can intern:
We are looking for second year master's level students in counseling/social work-related fields.

What your role would be:
The COAT intern would provide outreach-based psychotherapy to participants. The number of clients would depend on internship hours but would no more than 15.

COAT intern would learn and practice:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis
Modified Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Motivational Interviewing
Risk assessments for suicidal/homicidal ideation and grave disability.
Familiarization with the Assertive Community Treatment Model.
Daily Tasks:
Attend briefs and team meetings
Attend weekly group and individual supervision with project manager/PI.
Provide weekly psychotherapy to caseload of no more than 15.
Conduct care coordination between providers as needed.
Assist in crisis services and support as necessary.
Provide harm reduction and survival supplies as needed.
