Primary care Research Implementation and Engagement Lab
Dedicated to research that advances health equity, improves health outcomes and promotes access to evidence-based care in primary care.
Our research focuses on improving care for chronic pain, behavioral health and substance use disorders with a special interest in identifying and addressing loneliness in primary care and whole-person approaches to care. We are passionate eliminating disparities in health services and are committed to using patient, clinician and community engagement to inform our current and future studies.
Current Studies include:
- Quality Improvement of substance use care in primary care practices
- Clinical trial on nurse care management model for chronic pain
- Clinical trial on addressing loneliness
- Clinical trial on antibiotic use
Micro
Direct interaction with research participants:
- Recruitment, enrollment and follow-up for clinical studies
- Co-facilitating intervention groups to address loneliness
Mezzo
Liaising and collaborating with community partners:
- Helping to organize study advisory groups of patients, providers, and other stakeholders
- Co-facilitating groups of primary care practice champions in substance use care quality improvement initiatives
- Working with community leaders to co-design an intervention adaptation that will extend pain management model to Spanish speakers
Macro
Conducting research and synthesis that informs our studies:
- Collaborating on a scoping review of barriers and facilitators to substance use care and the evidence-based implementation strategies to address these challenges
- Extracting and synthesizing data from multiple sources
- Assisting in the design and creating of quality improvement materials that are digestible and actionable for primary care practices
Required Experience
Required experience:
Experience with group facilitation (patient or community stakeholders)
Experience with quantitative or qualitative data collection, including software like REDCap, Dedoos, etc.
Some research experience preferred (but not required)
Familiar with the principals of HIPAA and Good Clinical Practice
