About Our Organization Trans-Wa (formally, The Transgender Health and Wellness Center of Washington) is a nonprofit that serves Trans, Two-Spirit, Nonbinary, Intersex, 3rd Gender, Agender, and all gender expansive people across Washington State.
Mission Statement: We are a trans-led organization that advances health equity and justice for gender-expansive people across Washington State by eliminating barriers to self-determination, building gender-expansive community and capacity, and driving institutional and systemic change.

We approach our work through the lenses of equity, inclusion, access/ibility, and justice, and are working to cultivate explicitly anti-oppressive programs, policies, and practices. We are entering our 2nd year of operations and are actively developing our policies, programs, and change strategy, as well as developing our board. Practicum students will have a high level of influence at the foundational level of our organizational development.

About This Position
Trans-Wa is dedicated to uplifting existing organizations and programs that partner with gender-expansive people across Washington State. Due to the extensive historical and ongoing harm caused by white-centric social work, mental health, medical, and nonprofit organizations, we are choosing to explicitly prioritize partnership-building with Queer and Trans Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (QTBIPOC). This position will co-lead partnership-building with QTBIPOC organizations, programs, businesses, leaders, artists, volunteers, clients, and others across the state.
You will also work internally with collaborators and co-workers, as well as multiple EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) consultants who specialize in antiracism and/or decolonization work in nonprofit settings.
Micro
Activities are mutually agreed upon, but may include:
-- Ensure Trans-Wa's values, participant confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance (as relevant) are upheld in all interpersonal interactions
-- Co-lead partnership-building with Queer and Trans BIPOC-led organizations and individuals (both existing and new partners)
-- Support interested BIPOC partners in identifying areas of growth in trans competence and trans justice, and support them in accessing available resources from Trans-Wa and/or QTBIPOC organizations
Other OPTIONAL activities that may be of interest:
-- (Optional) Conduct cultural humility trainings internally, after completing Cultural Humility Train the Trainer (external BIPOC-run program, but paid by Trans-Wa)
-- (Optional) Facilitate or co-facilitate a QTBIPOC-specific support group
Mezzo
Activities are mutually agreed upon, but may include:
-- Attend weekly all staff meetings and co-working times, as well as relevant team, supervision, and other meetings
-- Work collaboratively with leadership and professional EDI consultant to identify additional antiracist and decolonial priorities and strategies for the organization; support EDI consultant and other staff in implementation of antiracism and decolonization recommendations, especially as they relate to BIPOC partnerships and programs
-- Work with EDI consultant to increase BIPOC program, volunteer, and partner engagement; as well as identify and address existing barriers
-- Support Trans-Wa program assessment and feedback processes
-- Support the engagement of Gender-Expansive People of Color in other organizational efforts, such as the Community Voices blog series, the Mental Health Hub, policy and advocacy priority-setting, etc.
Other OPTIONAL activities that may be of interest:
-- (Optional) Attend paid training: Cultural Humility "Train the Trainer"
-- (Optional) Oversee implementation of cultural humility best practices into all aspects of Trans-Wa, including hiring/onboarding, trainings, programs, policies, etc.
-- (Optional) Work collaboratively with other program staff to design a new QTBIPOC-centered program
Macro
Activities are mutually agreed upon, but may include:
-- Research and curate QTBIPOC-specific resources, stories, tools, and data to be shared across multiple digital platforms
-- Support the creation of original content (could be written, video, infographics, or other options) related to QTBIPOC, BIPOC mental health, and/or other related topics based on student interest
-- (Optional) Write original stories and/or research-based pieces for digital publication
-- Support leadership in updating organizational policies (and drafting new policies as necessary) regarding BIPOC partnerships, cultural humility, health equity, accessibility, language translation, etc. (student interest can drive specific policy focus areas)
Additional Perks or Funding
We also offer many paid training opportunities throughout the year. For example, this fall we're bringing in an organizational trauma consultant to do a 2-4 hour training for our staff (including practicum folks). In the past, we've also welcomed students to self-select trainings that Trans-Wa was able to cover.
Required Experience
Required:
-- Passionate about both race/ethnicity and gender diversity, as well as intersecting identities, lived experiences, and issues
-- Deep commitment to gender expansive people and communities, including transgender, nonbinary, intersex, Two Spirit, gender fluid, genderqueer, bigender, GNC, agender, and all other non-cis genders
-- Deep commitment to antiracism, decolonization, cultural humility, accessibility, and equity
-- Ability to identify own positionality (both privilege and marginalization) and engage with people across significant difference from a place of humility, respect, and empathy
-- Comfortable interacting with diverse groups of people via email, social media, Zoom, phone, and possibly in person
-- Commitment and follow-through to execute tasks—including potentially routine or mundane tasks—that are crucial for the implementation of projects and programs
-- Ability to self-organize and self-initiate, and/or willingness to work collaboratively with teammates to organize and plan tasks and workflow
Preferred:
-- Previous experience** working with LGBTQ+ community -- especially trans and gender expansive individuals -- and issues
-- Previous experience** working with BIPOC communities and issues
