Founded in 1966, Sound is one of King County’s most comprehensive providers of quality mental health and addiction treatment services, supporting our area’s most vulnerable populations. For more than 50 years Sound has been committed to providing excellent care to those we serve.  From young children to older adults, intensive outreach to insight oriented therapy, Sound has services to match the needs of our community.  With evidenced based practices and exceptionally talented team members we provide services to thousands each year at 16 outpatient sites, 4 residential facilities, nearly a dozen supported housing locations and hundreds of housing sites.  We proudly provide services in over 250 schools throughout our region.

Since 2017, Sound teams have practiced a model of care that has demonstrated efficacy for achieving recovery-based outcomes. Reaching Recovery™, developed by the Mental Health Center of Denver, is a measurement-based clinical care model that promotes consumer engagement and recovery.  This model ensures the right services at the right time and at the right intensity to match their recovery progression and inspire hope along their journey. This model also allows clinical team members to match their skills with clients needing varying levels of targeted intervention. This promotes greater satisfaction for our team members. Throughout all of Sound’s programs, children to older adults and everyone in between… evidenced based care and metric driven service delivery is a key component to the health and wellness for those we serve.

This internship will provide students with practical experience in micro-level social work, focusing on direct clinical interactions with individuals, families, and/or groups. Students will have the opportunity to perform case management, individual and group counseling, and various therapeutic interventions in diverse settings working with a variety of populations not limited to disabled, multicultural, multigenerational, 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC and more.
Responsibilities can include providing direct services and support to clients through individual, family, and group interventions. Conducting screenings and assessments to determine client needs, develop and implement treatment plans, crisis plans and best practice modalities, and offer case management services to coordinate care. Additionally, interns will facilitate one-on-one and group counseling sessions and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care through an integrative lens.

This internship offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in mezzo-level social work, focusing on working with groups, organizations, and communities. Interns will engage in program development, group facilitation, community outreach, and collaboration with various stakeholders to address systemic issues and promote positive change.
Responsibilities could include developing and implementing programs that address the needs of specific needs of the SOUND populations served, facilitating group sessions, workshops, and community meetings, and conducting community outreach to identify needs and build relationships with key partners. Interns will collaborate with community organizations, schools, and other agencies to coordinate services and resources, participate in the planning and evaluation of community-based initiatives, and advocate for clients and communities to address systemic issues and promote social justice or system changes to mental health. Additionally, they will maintain accurate records and documentation of program based clinical work, activities and client interactions, including systems analysis.

Sound internships offer students the opportunity to learn how macro work affects our work with smaller groups. Through the internships’ focus on micro and mezzo level work, students will have the opportunity to learn about how policy affects our populations. Students are encouraged to participate in activities centered around advocacy including legislative days in Olympia, NASW events and conferences, and policy discussions within the program and wider agency.
