Description

Seattle Children's is a pediatric hospital serving infants through young adults. This practicum placement is for the Emergency Department (ED) and Inpatient After Hours Social Work team. This role will provide students with the opportunity to engage in crisis interventions for children, youth and families in the hospital setting. Examples of crisis interventions include assessing and addressing concerns for child abuse and neglect, sexual assault/abuse, domestic violence, and supporting families during a medical code and end of life. There may be opportunities for suicide assessments as well. Students will have the opportunity to partner closely with other disciplines in the hospital as well as other community systems, including DCYF. Being in the afterhours setting, this role can provide a fast-paced environment with limited resources which will support students in learning how to best prioritize tasks based on acuity. In addition, this role can fluctuate in social work support needs throughout the hospital.

This is a great opportunity for someone who needs flexibility in their practicum schedule as the field instructors work 12 hour days in the evenings and some weekends. Students will not be expected to work weekend but may have the option.
