Description

West Seattle High School was founded in 1902 and has a tradition of community support, scholarship, and school pride. WSHS centers racial equity in all that we do, and prioritize removing systemic barriers for our students of color who are most affected by these systems.

We have a diverse population of 9th-12th graders, with some being served by English Language Learner (ELL or ML) program, Special Education program, and Advanced Placement (A.P.) program.

 

Micro

Individual student support
Short term interventions/counseling
Family support (meetings, advocacy, attendance support, re-entry, mediation)
Support with the management of school's food pantry (distribution of basic needs resources)
Support students and families that are part of the McKinney Vento Program, and those furthest from educational justice

Mezzo

Collaborate with community based organizations (CBOs) to meet the needs of students
Collaboration with Counseling Department
(Co)Facilitate groups, workshops, lunchtime activities, and more
In-classroom presentations
Collaborate with ASB to create programming for students
Be a part of the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) Team
Use data from healthy youth survey, attendance reports, and Ds and Es List to inform caseload and interventions
Participate in school activities
Attend Racial Equity Team (RET) meetings and lead a racial equity project in the school
Resource mapping and connecting with local businesses, groups, and organizations that can provide resources for students and families

Macro

Participate in professional development provided by the school and district
Understand the McKinney Vento Program, Laws, and Implementation
Learn about attendance policies from SPS and OSPI

Required Experience

Preferred experience, but not required:

Experience working with adolescents
Trained and experience with restorative practices
Experience working with diverse populations

Required/Preferred Languages

English
Bi-lingual (Spanish preferred)
